Fausto Melotti – La Ceramica / The Ceramics

March 25 – June 25, Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00am – 7:00pm
Fausto Melotti – La ceramica, curated by Ilaria Bernardi, from 25 March to 25 June 2023 at the Ragghianti Foundation, is a journey through the works of a great protagonist of the Italian artistic renewal of the twentieth century.
Sculptor, painter, draftsman and poet, Fausto Melotti was a refined ceramist and, from the second post-war period until the early 1960s, he found in this technique a tool for inventing and transforming his sculptures.
The exhibition is divided into four sections. The first presents and historicises Melotti’s ceramic production within his life and activity. The second is dedicated to the best-known types of ceramic sculptures conceived by the artist: from ceramics of sacred nature to bas-reliefs, from animals to female figures, from the so-called Onu to theaters. In the third section it is possible to see the video “In prima persona. Pittori e scultori. Fausto Melotti” (1984), by Antonia Mulas, with the only interview in which the artist analyzes his own path and his art and ceramics concept. The last part is dedicated to different types of ceramics – vases, cups, jugs, lamps, plates – made by the artist changing their function and making them real sculptures.
Also on display other works by artists and designers with whom Melotti was directly or indirectly in touch: Giacomo Balla, Lucio Fontana, Leoncillo, Arturo Martini, Enzo Mari, Bruno Munari, Gio Ponti, Emilio Scanavino, Ettore Sottsass.
