Lucca Summer Festival: Pat Metheny

The Lucca Summer Festival stage opens its doors to Pat Metheny, universally recognized as one of the greatest guitarists in history, winner of 20 Grammy Awards in his career, capable of ranging between the most various musical genres and collaborating with legends such as Ornette Coleman , Herbie Hancock, Milton Nascimento and David Bowie.

Metheny will bring to LSF a project called “Side-Eye” which he launched this year and involves talented young musicians. Pat explains “I wanted to create a continuous setting to feature a rotating cast of emerging musicians who have particularly captured my interest along the way”

Pat continues, “From my early days in Kansas City onward, I’ve been the beneficiary of so many older musicians who have provided me with a platform to develop my own stuff through the prism of their experience and the particular needs of what their music implied. I felt like I also wanted to create a platform to specifically work on some of the younger musicians I’ve come to like recently that I’ve felt some kind of affinity with.”

“I regularly hear from new musicians who say they’ve been influenced by my records and tunes, and I often invite them over to my house to play. Quite often, it feels really natural to play with them, they literally grew up with my music. I find myself inspired by how they tackle the musical challenges that come with the territory of some of those older tracks, and at the same time find myself intrigued by the possibilities of what might be possible to write new music just for them.”
