LUCCA VISIONI | 18 – 26 November 2022

The second edition of Lucca Visioni , scheduled from 18 to 26 November 2022, is organized by MAT-Movimenti Artistici Trasversali in collaboration with the Teatro del Giglio, is realized with the contribution of the Municipality of Lucca and the Banca del Monte di Lucca Foundation, and has the patronage of the SIAE.  Lucca Visioni 2022 is curated by Jonathan Bertolai, who intends to continue this path, confirming the objectives of the first edition to continue promoting the culture of theater in a transversal way, maintaining a strong synergy with the territory. Lucca Visioni 2022 will deepen the theme of alteritas and will present a series of events and activities, aimed at involving also new audiences, such as the young people of Generation Z.

To support the schedule of theatrical performances there will be a section dedicated to the contamination between theater and visual arts (always under the curatorship of Giacomo Pecchia), two acting workshops , an audience development project (always in synergy with the youth policies of the Municipality of Lucca ), and a new audience engagement project (in collaboration with Lucca Creative Hub).

The aim of Lucca Visioni is therefore to concretely contribute to expanding the cultural offer of the city of Lucca, involving new audiences and promoting the culture of theater especially among young people, through a multidisciplinary and interactive approach.

More information can be found on the MAT-Movimenti Artistici Trasversali website

PROGRAM OF THE SHOWS
Wanting to continue the research path of the self – already addressed in the first edition of Lucca Visioni, when he chose the theme of intimacy -, Jonathan Bertolai for the 2022 edition decided to investigate the nuances of meaning of the concept of alteritas , starting from the definition of the Treccani dictionary: “ Philosophical concept which in school language is opposed to that of identity. Already Plato, especially in dialectical dialogues, starting from the Eleatic opposition of being and non-being or, more precisely, of “what is” to “what is not”, recognizes how, in this second term of the antithesis, “not being” is resolved in “being other” (…). ”

What is our identity? Do we have one?
From an early age, man is part of social systems and dynamics, which contribute to shaping his identity, because fundamentally man is a being who also lives as a reflection of the environmental and social conditions in which he is formed.
But, once the social system is removed, relations are removed, what remains? What does “other” really mean? Other than what or to whom? And, socially, are “other” and “different” perceived in the same way?
The selected shows therefore investigate the multiple aspects of the meaning of alteritas with different languages and approaches , both in its individual and collective meaning.

CONTAMINATIONS
Wanting to deepen the theme of alteritas following a multidisciplinary approach, the curator Giacomo Pecchia has decided to return to involve contemporary artists, who work in the field of visual arts, in particular in the field of performances, videos and installations, in order to promote profitable multidisciplinary contaminations, which will make it possible to reach an even wider range of audiences that are not used to regular attendance at the theater. This section in 2022 includes the exhibition of a work by an internationally renowned artist, Dimitris Papaioannou , the presentation of a project conceived by Giacomo Vezzani and Giacomo Pecchia, aimed at exploring the poetry of Emily Dickinson through multiple languages, and an in-depth study on the memory of poetry through the works of Opera del Rosso (Ian Gualdani and Giacomo Dominici). Papaoiannou accepted the invitation of Giacomo Pecchia of MAT to present the video installation INSIDE in the spaces of the Teatro del Giglio on the occasion of Lucca Visioni (November 19, 15-21, 20 and 21 November, 10-18) : presented in Italy at Ravello Festival in 2016 and at the Torinodanza Festival in 2018, INSIDE will open the second edition of Lucca Visioni by connecting with last year’s theme, intimacy, to amplify and facet it.

The second project that Giacomo Pecchia intends to present on the occasion of Lucca Visioni is entitled The saddest noise, the sweetest noise  and takes its name from the project created by Giacomo Vezzani and Giacomo Pecchia in homage to the poetry of Emily Dickinson.

The third project in this section consists of Poema della Fine di Opera del Rosso (Giacomo Dominici and Ian Gualdani): a progressive installation project. Written in 1926 by Marina Tsvetaeva in Prague, the Poem of the End is a cry of pain on the end of a love, it is the chronicle of the emotions, thoughts and experiences of the author during the period of separation from her lover Constantin Rodzevic. The installation Ninive-Per un Sentiero di Capreby Opera del Rosso is designed to preserve the places of passage, to take care of the memory of poetry: the installation is in fact the house that collapses, the house that collapses is the room after the performance. In the same places where it was previously staged Poem of the End ,  (Chapters I and II) , 21 and 22 November, from 23 to 26 November (hours 15-18, free admission) visitors will be able to look after their bequests through this installation project. In the same places where Poema della Fine was previously staged ,  (Chapters I and II), 21 and 22 November,  from 23 to 26 November (hours 15-18, free admission) visitors will be able to look after their bequests through this installation project .

ACTOR WORKSHOPS
The two acting workshops of Lucca Visioni 2022 (21-26 November, 10-13 and 15-18, choir room of the Teatro del Giglio), will be open to all : they will work simultaneously on different directions, which will intersect at several he resumed, sharing the in-depth study on the theme of alteritas . The workshop conducted by Elena Nenè Barini will focus more on the preparation of the voice and the body, while the one conducted by Jonathan Bertolai will focus more on improvisation and stage writing.
Participants will be selected through a call launched in October 2022, and not being reserved exclusively for operators in the sector, it will encourage the formation of a heterogeneous group, aimed at encouraging the participation of young people of generation Z.
To encourage participation and involvement also for residents outside the Lucca area, it is our intention to promote a campaign entitled “Host a (‘) artist “, to put in contact those who have the possibility and interest in hosting a participant, with those interested in workshops and are looking for an advantageous accommodation for the week of the festival. This initiative has already been launched by organizers of cultural events, and in some cases it has been instrumental in guaranteeing broad participation.

PROJECTS AIMED AT EXPANDING THE THEATRICAL AUDIENCE
T o promote the culture of theater and involve large audiences, it is essential to create long-lasting paths aimed at forming a critical conscience of the spectator. The audience development project therefore wants to represent an invitation to the theater, through a path that includes spectacle visions accompanied by introductory meetings, moments of reflection on what was enjoyed and open dialogues with the artists who went on stage. This project will take place daily and will be conducted again by Igor Vazzaz and hosted in the Corte dell’Angelo room, the Youth Policy space of the Municipality of Lucca, managed by Onda Espressiva.
For the 2022 edition, MAT has started a collaboration with Lucca Creative Hub, in order to start an audience engagement project aimed at Generation Z. entitled “Theater-Workshop Reporter Profession between journalism and audio documentation”. A path towards the public, led by Irene Panzani and Giacomo Vezzani, which is one step further back than the audience development project, since it intends to meet a very young audience (17-25 years) and still new to attendance. of the theater, to try to instill and spread interest in culture and theater, starting from the question of what theater can give them.
