And the Stars Were Shining – Walk along the Walls with Music performances & Associations opening their doors

The access and the route are free, but starting the walk from the cafe delle Mura, as the architect Nottolini had thought when in the nineteenth century the Urban Walls were transformed from a military building into an original urban park, the welcome to the Baluardo Santa Maria, in front of the Caffè delle Mura is from the Puccini association and its Lucca with a Puccini lyric Grand Gala: soloists the soprano Fabiola Formiga and the tenor Giovanni Cervelli, accompanied on the piano by maestro Diego Fiorini. At the Baluardo San Paolino Massimo Salotti of the Sinfonia music school, composer and pianist of the Catalani Association, will perform at the piano, who will interpret Impressions … realists, repertoires by Alfredo Catalani, Giacomo Puccini, Pietro Mascagni and Umberto Giordano.

The barracks will be open and can be visited with installations by the Contrade di San Paolino Association. At the San Donato bulwark, the small barracks that houses the Museum of the Antica Zecca di Lucca Foundation will be open exceptionally during the night, the history of the city told through the oldest coins and cones in Europe. The House of Memory and Peace will be opened at the castle of Porta San Donato, home of the Liberation Route, an ideal journey through recent history, in the places of liberation and in the stories that unite the peoples of Europe.

At the barracks of the Baluardo Santa Croce, the honors of the house are done by the Brunier Laboratory Association, with the concert Sound Suggestions from the Stars, which brings together the great classics and contemporary authors in a selection of pieces by Catalani, Puccini, Luporini, Pacini and the contemporary composers of Lucca Lucia Bianucci, Mauro Fabbri and Stefano Teani performed by the Ensemble Brunier Lucca: string quartet composed by Agnese Manfredini, Valeria Barsanti, Pierpaolo Riccomini, Caterina Mancini and Mauro Fabbri and Stefano Teani at the piano.

Also scheduled are poetry readings by Loredana Bruno with musical improvisations by Maria Bruno and the flutist Agnese Manfredini and a tribute to Maestro Puccini and the poet Giovanni Pascoli, author of the poem X August. In the barracks the theatrical costumes of the Puccini heroines made by the costume designer Franco Nieri will be on display. On the San Frediano platform the associations Animando and Virtuoso & Belcanto present How I met Puccini … waiting for 2024. The soprano Ilaria Casai, the flutist Agnese Manfredini, and the cellist Francesca Gaddi will perform Puccini arias arranged for the occasion and in the first performance, by the composer Valentina Ciardelli, preceded by a reading of the verses of Giovanni Pascoli. The Flag-wavers and Musicians of the City of Lucca and Historica Lucense Associations will animate the San Frediano barracks with preparations and re-enactments. At the Baluardo San Martino the La Boheme Music Association, with the soprano Silvana Froli, Sara Tomei on the flute and other musicians, will interpret South American music and with Puccini’s women the most famous arias of the great Lucca opera player. At the bulwark San Pietro, the historic Crossbowmen Association of Lucca, guides you back to the Middle Ages, to visit the basement of the bulwark and the shooting positions set up in the basement between flourishes of flags and tales of glories and victories. At the Baluardo San Salvatore the soprano Greta Buonamici, a pupil of the L. Boccherini Musical Institute, is the voice who will interpret pieces by Debussy and Puccini accompanied by pianist Simone Rugani of the Lucchese Music Association.

At the Baluardo San Regolo the FLAM proposes Cantare in Musica, a concert between classical and lyric music, on pages by Puccini, Catalani, Mozart, Handel, Ravel and others, interpreted by the soprano Chiara Ramello, the mezzo-soprano Tania Notte accompanied by the pianist Isabella Gori. The Sagra Musicale Lucchese instead offers a musical journey from Mozart to Catalani, from Puccini to Dvořák, up to Piazzolla, with Niccolò Bartolini on the piano and Valeria Del Soldato on the violin. At the San Colombano bulwark, in front of the barracks, the Filharmonie orchestra, composed by Martselina Davitaya, violin, will play; Elisa Barsella, viola; Andrea Sernesi, cello in collaboration with the Centro Studi Boccherini, with a repertoire dedicated to the great author of the most famous of the Minuets, Haydn and others. Inside the barracks, which houses the Puccini study center, the Puccini Foundation invites you to visit the Vissi d’Arte exhibition, a tribute by the painter Tito Mucci to the twelve works of Puccini. And finally, after the spectacular stretch of walls flanked by the monumental lyriodendrons, this hypothetical circle closes with the Castle of Porta San Pietro, where the Lucchesi nel Mondo Association will await you, with stories from other worlds and other journeys and the possibility of visit the technical rooms of the Porta San Pietro.
