Cathedral Music Organ Concert

Philippe Lefebvre studied at the Lille Conservatory, then at the Paris Higher National Conservatory of Music where he obtained first prizes in organ, improvisation, fugue and counterpoint. He began his profession as an organist in Marcq-en-Barœul; at 19 he was appointed organist at the Cathedral of Arras.
In 1971 he received the Fondation de la vocation Prize and the first improvisation prize at the international competition in Lyon. In 1973 he won the improvisation grand prix of the international competition of Chartres where he later became the titular organist of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame.
He regularly holds concerts and master classes in Europe, the United States, Japan, Russia and Eastern countries. In 1985 he was appointed titular organist of the Notre-Dame Cathedral of Paris, jointly with Yves Devernay, Olivier Latry and Jean-Pierre Leguay and thus succeeding his teacher Pierre Cochereau.
A talented performer, he is equally recognized as one of the most important improvisers of his time.
