In Florence a major exhibition with over 200 works by Escher, the master of illusions From 20 October 2022 to 26 March 2023, a large anthology dedicated to the Dutch painter and mathematician, with his most iconic masterpieces, will be set up at the Museo degli Innocenti in Florence.

Maurits Cornelis Escher is a Dutch artist known all over the world for his engravings that focus on images that explore impossible symmetries, mathematical paradoxes and architecture, giving masterpieces that still appear hypnotic, surprising and unsettling, inspiration for countless films. Restless, reserved and brilliant, Escher in his famous engravings and lithographs has managed to create a unique, imaginative, impossible world, where art, mathematics, science, physics and design converge.  The most iconic masterpieces of his production will be present, such as: Hand with reflecting sphere (1935), Bond of union (1956), Metamorphosis II (1939), Day and night (1938) and the series of the Emblemata, which belong to the common imagery linked to the great artist.

The “Escher” exhibition is the first major exhibition event within the monumental complex of the Museo degli Innocenti in Florence. The museum hosts a path that allows you to discover a unique cultural heritage in the world that tells the story of the institute that was the first in Europe to collect orphaned children who could not have been raised by their families of origin. The museum collection includes, among other things, some masterpieces by artists of great importance, including Domenico Ghirlandaio, Luca and Andrea della Robbia, Sandro Botticelli and Piero di Cosimo, but also by artists who grew up at the Innocenti and started painting by the prior Vincenzo Borghini as Vincenzo Ulivieri, Giovan Battista Naldini and Francesco Morandini known as Poppi.
