Exhibit “Prometheus and Atalanta” – Final Weekend

September 26, 2022 @ 10:00 am - October 2, 2022 @ 7:00 pm
Free

Church of San Franceschetto. Piazza San Francesco – Lucca

The evocative space of the church of San Franceschetto is illuminated by the light and colors of two works by Pompeo Girolamo Batoni from Lucca, one of the most famous painters of the eighteenth century, at the time already very popular and requested by popes, cardinals and rulers of all Europe.

On display the two masterpieces Minerva infuses the soul of the human figure modeled in clay by Prometheus and Atalanta mourns Meleager dying, subjects executed between 1740 and 1743 for the Marquis Lodovico Sardini of Lucca.

Two clear and brilliant canvases that immortalize classical themes taken from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, testifying to the great mythological passion of the artist and remarkable proof of his early maturity, when he was divided between the studies conducted in Rome and the commissions of his hometown, which he was always tied up.

Days and opening hours: from Friday to Sunday from 10:00 to 19:00.
