At 6 pm the ceremony begins in which the mayor gives the gold florins to the citizens who have distinguished themselves for their social, cultural and civil commitment during the year.
The final of historical Florentine football
We have already talked about it here , the Florentine historical football is an event very much felt by the citizens. Even more the final, which traditionally takes place in San Giovanni, the feast of the patron saint of Florence. This year the semifinals will take place between Azzurri and Bianchi on one side and Rossi and Verdi on the other. Who will be able to win? An exciting challenge to follow from the stands in Piazza Santa Croce . Dario Nardella, mayor of Florence, has also already announced the names of this year’s historical football masters : Giancarlo De Sisti , aka “Picchio” and Bruno Astori , Davide’s brother.
The fires of San Giovanni
The mayor wants the celebrations to resume in the city with great style, after two years of small celebrations. Therefore, the fireworks display of what the Florentines call “ the fire of San Giovanni ” could not be missing. It will be possible to attend in the evening around 11.00 pm from the Lungarno while enjoying an outdoor concert and some surprises not yet revealed. Another tactical point from which to see the fires is certainly Piazzale Michelangelo , from where you also have a privileged view over the whole city. This annual event derives from the most ancient tradition of the fourteenth century of lighting bonfires and lighting torches under a loggia in Piazza della Signoria.
