Free Entry to Italian Gardens (Appointment in the Garden)

The APGI – Parks and Gardens Association of Italy offers all Italian gardens to join the Appointment in the Garden initiative scheduled for Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June 2022, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture. The event, conceived as an authentic ‘garden party’, was born in accordance with the Rendez-vous aux jardins initiative, which will take place simultaneously in over 20 European countries.

THE SPIRIT OF THE INITIATIVE

The event, which aims to invite the general public to discover the surprising historical, artistic, botanical and landscape richness of Italian gardens, will be an opportunity to introduce the public to normally closed gardens and to enrich the possibilities of use of the gardens. gardens regularly open.

As in previous editions, many actors will be involved: gardeners, botanists, landscape architects, private owners and public managers, important foundations and associations with the aim of telling the universe of the garden, its fragility, its cultural and environmental relevance. , its importance for the well-being of individuals and the community. For this reason, the event will also offer the opportunity to inform the general public about the activities necessary to care for, restore and protect the gardens.

THEME OF THE 2022 EDITION: “Gardens in the face of climate change”

In addition to being places of poetry and beauty, gardens are extraordinary ‘sensors’ that, in reconnecting with Nature, tell us what happens to our environment: modification of the vegetable palette, change in the rhythm of the seasons, early blooms, the appearance of new parasites … The increasingly evident effects of climate change force us to rethink the maintenance and conservation of gardens with a view to sustainability and resilience, to ensure the transmission to future generations of such a fragile cultural heritage. Appointment in the Garden can also be a precious opportunity to raise public awareness on these issues through the story and sharing of experiences, solutions, new perspectives.
