“Terre Furiose” is the program of events that will animate the city of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana throughout 2022, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the arrival in our city of Ludovico Ariosto, who here held the position of Commissioner Estense in Garfagnana from February 1522 to June 1525.The cultural initiatives that will develop throughout the year will focus on the figure of the illustrious governor and more generally on the historical period, which lasted four centuries, in which Castelnuovo di Garfagnana was part of the Estense Duchy.
All this will also coincide with the completion of the renovation work on the symbolic monument of our community, the Rocca Ariostesca, which, as part of the cultural tourism project “Cantiere Estense” promoted by MiBACT, is the subject of a restoration and enhancement intervention that it will lead to become a museum center on Ludovico Ariosto and the Garfagnana of the 1500s and an Ariosto study center closely linked to the territory.

Moderated by the director of Lucca Comics & Games Emanuele Vietina.
- 15.30 – 16.30 [Piazza delle Erbe] – What class are you? How to build a character avoiding stereotypes (or maybe not?) . The Mother of Dragons talks with Kurolily and Dangereesk of InnTale and Game Designer Mauro Longo on how to make your characters interesting without having to resort to stereotypes (or thanks to them).
- 16.30 – 17.30 [Piazza delle Erbe] – Heraldry from Ariosto to Game of Thrones . Dialogue between the art critic Luigi Ficacci and the professor and popularizer Luca Raina on the Araldic and the artistic symbology that connects Ariosto and Game of Thrones, passing through the narratives of the fantasy world.
- 17.30 – 18.30 [Piazza delle Erbe] – “ Furioso ”: Simone Laudiero, Carlo Bassetti, Fabrizio Luisi, Pier Mauro Tamburini of the collective “La Buoncostume” present a preview of their new book published by Mondadori, out on May 31st. Moderated by La Madre dei Draghi, introduced by the director of Lucca Comics & Games Emanuele Vietina.
- 18.30 – 19.30 [Piazza delle Erbe] – It’s not just for…: the RPG for everyone. Licia Troisi, The Mother of Dragons and Kurolily talk about the inclusiveness of fantasy and role-playing. Introduces the director of Lucca Comics & Games Emanuele Vietina.

The meeting will be moderated by the art critic Luigi Ficacci.
- 15.00 – 17.00 [Teatro Alfieri] – Building a setting between fantastic and historical : fiction, comics and RPGs. The Mother of Dragons talks with Licia Troisi, Roberto Recchioni, Luca Enoch and Mauro Longo on how to build a fantasy setting, including fiction, comics and role play. Introduces the director of Lucca Comics & Games Emanuele Vietina.
- 16.00 – 17.00 [Piazza delle Erbe] – From Poem to Role Play: transposing Ariosto . The game designer Andrea Angiolino talks about the playful experience and the combination of history, fantasy and art in the role-playing game. He introduces the director of Lucca Comics & Games Emanuele Vietina.
- 17.30 – 18.30 [Piazza delle Erbe] – The alphabet of the elves. Fantasy is full of different races and for many of them their own language has been created. Matteo Tognela analyzes the alphabet of the elves invented by Tolkien, modern narrator par excellence, and explains the fundamental rules of composition of the Tengwar, the “letters” of this system. During the meeting it will be possible to practice some calligraphic possibilities to which these characters lend themselves.
- 18.30 – 19.30 [Piazza delle Erbe] – Epic Fantasy: between comics and role play . The Mother of Dragons and Luca Enoch address the theme of the transposition of the Epic Fantasy through the narratives of the comic and the role-playing game.
