Guided Tour, Dinner and Concert at Fondazione Tobino

On Sunday 10 July spend a multifaceted afternoon and evening of intercultural and historical encounters, entitled “Life is a beautiful experience”.
The funds raised through this event, sponsored by the Mario Tobino Foundation with the support of Grapevine Magazine and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca (as well as several other associations), will be donated to Caritas Lucca.
Beginning at 5pm, enjoy a guided visit with Dr. Enrico Marchi, a theatrical performance with MT6 ArtGroup, and an iconodiagnostic presentation, as well as aperitif (7pm) and dinner (8.15pm) with music by Lucca musician Giulio D’Agnello at the convent of Maggiano, located about 10 km west of Lucca.
Dr. Mario Tobino, for many years head doctor at the ex-psychiatric hospital at Maggiano, wrote many novels based on his experiences there in the 1960s and 1970s, including Amicizia and other books regarding life at the institution. The history of this place, originally built as a convent and later dedicated to the mentally ill, is a fascinating story that culminated with the deinstitutionalization of mental hospitals in the 1970s (in Italy and in other countries too).
