Guided Tour of the former Psychiatric Hospital in Maggiano near Lucca

For four years now, thanks to the collaboration with the Mario Tobino Foundation, and the support of other voluntary associations in partnership (Società Medico Chirurgica Lucchese, Associazione Archimede and the Guglielmo Lippi Francesconi Study and Research Center), with the contribution of a sponsor ( Audi Center of Lucca), the Lucchese Art and Psychology Association – ALAP organizes emotional tours, guided by a scenic narration, to the historic places of Maggiano.
Through a historical-literary and at the same time scientific journey, which the artists of “MT6 . Art Group” animate by interpreting scenes freely taken from the works of Mario Tobino and musical pieces, the story of Italian psychiatry is told and of that psychosocial rehabilitation that has always distinguished the psychiatry of Lucca, since the times of the old asylum.
We come into contact with the stories of the patients and operators of the old psychiatric hospital, guided by Tobin’s most beautiful pages that make us discover the soul and poetics of the psychiatrist-writer but also, through the unraveling of the story, other important figures which led Maggiano to be in the 60s an important point of reference for art therapies scientifically applied to the care of patients and their social recovery, in a trajectory of healing, discharge and a forerunner of overcoming asylum admission.
For this new appointment conducted by Dr Enrico Marchi – Psychiatrist, new narratives will undoubtedly involve the public in a fascinating and evocative itinerary that always leaves a strong emotional trace, which in any case helps to reflect on the problems relating to psychic discomfort and on the current possibilities of prevention and cure.
“ L’ULTIMA CHIAVE” will be in Maggiano on SATURDAY 14 JANUARY AT 10 AM
Admission subject to availability.
