Band are often thought of a quirky, but Verdi owed much to the bands he listened to as a boy and used them to announce the arrival of King Duncan in Macbeth. Before that Bellini, Berlioz, Spontini, in the second act of Agnese of Hohenstaufen uses a huge band that acts as the organ and is one of the sublime moments of that work (Riccardo Muti)
