“The Last Key” Experiential Tour of the former asylum of Maggiano, Lucca.

WALK THROUGH TIME BETWEEN PSYCHIATRY, LITERATURE AND ART
Artistic animations accompany visitors with Tobinian readings and scenic actions, musical performances linked to the theme of madness and the artistic experiences of psychosocial rehabilitation, which took place in Maggiano in the 60s. Historical-literary reenactment lunch by reservation

The key gives its name to the tour with scenic story, and is the original tool that closed the doors and windows of the asylum, an emotional journey in the former asylum of Maggiano, conceived and conducted by the psychiatrist Enrico Marchi; a walk through time between psychiatry, literature and art with Tobinian readings, musical performances related to the theme of madness and the artistic experiences of psychosocial rehabilitation that took place at the Maggiano psychiatric hospital in Lucca in the 1960s.

THE MISSION To bring people closer to a forgotten historical memory of the asylum of Maggiano, the figure of Tobino and Prof. Lippi Francesconi to spread their knowledge. Remember the good practices implemented there, of assistance and care by psychiatric operators in the pre-Basaglia era. Explain what mental illness is, trying to break down the stigma that still surrounds psychiatric patients today.

TOUR Includes a re-evocative itinerary in the central departments, with narrations, musical and recitative interventions by the “MT6 ArtGroup”: the management courtyard, the cloister of the well, the medieval cloisters of the female and male division, the art therapy room, the ancient stairs, the church, the cinema, the dormitory and the kitchens, and the possibility of visiting the small museum “Rooms with a view on humanity”, with a guide from the Mario Tobino Foundation, home to the spaces where the psychiatrist-writer lived and of the exhibition itinerary, where testimonies and tools related to the welfare history of the old asylum are collected.

AN EMOTIONAL TOUR This experiential tour becomes an active moment, also lived on an emotional level, which allows you to “take home” not only beautiful and evocative images, but also emotions and indelible memories. It is very important to underline the enrichment on a cultural and personal level and perhaps, and it is important to hope so, a greater awareness of psychic distress. Storytelling tells the story of Maggiano and of those who lived and worked there, arousing those suggestions that actively involve the visitor, stimulating critical reflection, making it easier to remember and understand the contents and to tell them to others. The chosen tool of scenic narration ensures that the guided tour involves the 5 senses, creating an active involvement in visitors of any age through the sensations and emotions that everyone experiences by listening, looking, touching, even catching the smells of those ancient places, and sometimes even by tasting the food offered at the historical lunch.
