Did You Know? . . The trail along the aqueduct here in Lucca is being widened and paved with gravel to make it more user friendly. Though it is still a work in progress, in just a few months it should be ready as a continuous 3+km walk. From Lucca, you start at the end of the aqueduct and walk towards it’s beginning. Constructed in the 1800’s by Lorenzo Nottolini, it is made mostly of brick, is 12 meters high and has over 400 arches. It’s obvious that the aqueduct is no longer in use as one can see that several arches were removed to make room for the A11 highway!
