Roman Dinner

Tasting of Roman dishes at the Agorà civic library . The event, organized by Domus Romana Lucca, preceded by a conference on the subject, will be held on Friday (21 October) at 6 pm.

Simona Velardi , director of the Domus Romana Lucca, will illustrate the world of archaeogastronomy. You will be a Convivium that will make you discover the Prandium ritual. Dishes, ingredients, condiments and dulcis in fundo you can enjoy tastings prepared from original recipes from the Roman era.

“For the Romans cooking was a true art – explains Velardi -. There was a race to grab the best and most imaginative cooks (archimagiri). The greatest of all was Apicius, the undisputed master of the culinary art. The use of rare and exotic ingredients was customary to amaze the diners. Many have been lost over time, others we find changed, some plants are still available today in their original genetic conformation ”.
