Verdemura happening now – Lucca’s on the wall gardening and outdoor show

By Debra Kolkka

The walls of Lucca are home to the 13th Verdemura today, tomorrow and Sunday.

I have been several times and it a great place to see a huge variety of plants from surrounding nurseries. There are lots of specialist growers where I have found unusual plants not found easily. Many of the 120 peonies in my garden have come from Verdemura collected over the years and they are all thriving.

We went early this morning to hopefully avoid the promised rain. There were no queues to get in and we headed off to find a wheelbarrow.

The very first stand we came to had dozens of plants that would happily find a home in our garden but we covered the whole area before making our decisions.

There are other things besides plants at Verdemura. There is garden machinery, hand made items, garden decorations and food. (of course, siamo in Italia).

We loaded our wheelbarrow and made it out before the rain began to fall. I hope the weather doesn’t deter people. Verdemura is a wonderful event.
