Did you know…..what is now known as the Antico Caffè delle Mura was once a military barracks? Built in 1840 and a stunning example of 19th-century architecture, it was the idea of Carlo Ludovico de Borbone to convert it into a noted place for prominent personalities and a destination for weddings. Over the years restaurants have come and gone with the hopes of reviving it as an eating and garden establishment, but closure after closure and most recently the fault of the pandemic, today it stands empty. There has been recent interest by several people to take over the property. Hopefully soon it can be returned to an active and symboic place in Lucca.
